Welcome to Nyhavns Færgekro - a classic Danish restaurant located right on the Nyhavn canal in central Copenhagen.
Housed in two of the harbour’s oldest buildings, the restaurant combines maritime charm, local history and authentic Danish cooking. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel at home - relaxed, welcoming and full of character.
Here, the kitchen celebrates traditional Danish food made with care and seasonal ingredients. At lunch, guests can enjoy our famous herring buffet (Denmark’s largest) featuring up to ten homemade herring varieties as well as a large selection of traditional Smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches) . In the evening, the menu offers timeless favourites such as fried plaice, Danish meatballs, the national dish Stegt Flæsk, and tartelettes, all served in a warm and informal atmosphere. At Nyhavns Færgekro we also produce our own home-infused aquavits, made with herbs and berries like sweet woodruff, St. John’s wort and yarrow, and have up to twenty different flavours crafted to match the food.
Setting & atmosphere
The restaurant occupies two adjoining 17th-century buildings, lovingly restored to preserve their maritime heritage. Inside you’ll find details that tell their own stories. Marble floors from the old Dagmar Theatre, a cast-iron spiral staircase from a Frederiksberg tram, and since the building once housed the White Star Line ticket office, the old windows still have destinations like “New York” still faintly etched in the glass.
In winter, the open fireplace creates a cozy glow, while in summer, guests can enjoy a meal on the large terrace overlooking the canal and Nyhavn’s colourful life.

Nyhavns Færgekro offers a range of spaces suitable for everything from intimate dinners to larger gatherings and company events.
On the ground floor, the restaurant has two rooms, which can seat 30 guests and 50 guests. Upstairs, the two private dining rooms can seats 40 and 60 guests - or be combined to host up to 100 people for banquets, dinners, events, or meetings.
